How Auburn’s win over Arkansas changed its bowl projections

For weeks, many of Auburn’s bowl projections hinged on if Auburn could get to seven wins.

After demolishing Arkansas 48-10 Saturday and a New Mexico State game coming up this week where Auburn is a heavy favorite, seven wins appear a strong possibility. That’s important, because seven wins likely push Auburn above the Gasparilla and Birmingham Bowls and instead into the pool of six games including the ReliaQuest, Mayo, Liberty, Music City, Liberty and Texas Bowls.

Where Auburn fits into those six bowl games is dependant on where the pecking order of SEC teams stand after conference championship game week. Teams are first selected for the College Football Playoff, then New Year’s Six games, then the Citrus Bowl takes the top remaining SEC team and then after that those pool of six games get their choice.

And the final weeks of the SEC schedule could result in a large group of teams with records hovering around 8-4 or 7-5.

So here’s where national outlets think Auburn could be headed, for now:

The Action Network: Auburn to the Texas Bowl against Oklahoma State

USA Today: Auburn to the Liberty Bowl against Iowa State

CBS: Auburn to the Texas Bowl against Kansas

ESPN: Mark Schlabach predicts Auburn to the Music City Bowl against Minnesota, Kyle Bonagura predicts Auburn to the ReliaQuest Bowl against Maryland

Athlon Sports: Auburn to the Music City Bowl against Maryland
